NEW IIa FC Owner Shropshire

Hello, I’m another new IIaFC owner , I have had a ‘66 IIa 109…. Er?.. NC?... (what do we call Normal land rovers?) For the last 20 years or so, but this I my first step up from 750’s. Looking at the amount of work/ cash involved my new project may not be on the road for some time, but I thought I’d put up a picture and say “hello”.

I’d also be interested to know if there is anybody else in my neck of the woods, there have been rumours of a IIb around Ironbridge?

Welcome to the madhouse.

Normal Control is a term sometimes used to differentiate from an FC, though more common to tag FC onto IIA, IIB or 101.

Looks a grand project though, as to any more FC's in the area? No idea, though it still amazes me what people have hidden in sheds they don't talk about.

Landrover used to talk about "Bonneted Control" as well which is kind of funny.

Welcome to the forum Wheeledbeast, you clearly have excellent taste as I know a few of us here rather had a liking for that particular IIA FC.

I should point out that I don’t plan that far ahead, ‘cos every thing always changes! The original plan was to get myself a nice practical land rover to let my 66 109 go into retirement. You know the sort of thing nice diesel 90 on easy to find 205 radials, ready to drive; one that does not need any work doing… that plan went wrong too!
So the FC Well? Mainly sort out the rust , give it a lick of paint, and get it through an MOT. (It is MOT exempt, but I’m not too sure on the ethics of that one?). I think I may have to ditch the crane, and fab up some sort of canvas for the back. Also thinking about trying to lower the floor in the back a bit like a 109? I was planning to pain the whole thing in Nato Matt green, ‘cos its cheep and easy to paint, but I’ve started to fall in love with the yellow ‘ll try and attach a micky mouse photo shop of my current design (Don’t laugh my IT skills are not up to much, although they may be better than my painting!).

Paint job looks cool, except the wheels!

Kind of keeps it with it's tow truck heritage, which is nice if it's going to lose the crane.

Yeh, everyone hates the wheels , I think I’ve got the chevrons upside down too . Black wheels just seem dull? I do like the crane it all works too, it’s just heavy and right in the middle of the pickup bed… actually its right in the middle of my next door neighbours flower bed, so I need to get a move on with this project

The law around MOT exemption for recovery vehicles relates to the vehicle being equipped for and only used for the purpose of recovering broken down vehicles from the roadside to a place of repair or further transport.

If you get caught using it for anything else then you liable for fines and other fire and brimstone, you'll find out if you look it up.
Looks better with some 'paint' although Matt's right about the wheels, just do em all one colour?
