Rim rims rims...

Had to get one of the wheels of to look at the brakes, so had a quick look for a part number, I also measured the distance from the outer flange that is parallel to the direction of travel of the wheel (i.e. the flange that the tyre bead sits on the back of) to the parallel flange that the wheel studs go through ( I.e. the one that the drum touches the back of). I thought this would be a good estimate of offset and eas- ish to measure . I got 62mm anyway, does that sound about right

Just out of interest I thought I would throw this one in too, The wheel on the right Is a standard MOD spec Split rim from the mid sixties, the one on the left is a 5.5 rim from around 2000. Not great photos , but the general impression most people get is that the mod rim has the widest offset. If you measure them ( as described above) you find they have exactly the same offset ( 38mm) it is just the curved lip on the bolt flange is much smaller on the split rims.

can I ask a simple question, what is the overall width of the 6 1/2" rims.

The spare I've bought measures 7 9/16" or 192mm across the outer faces.

Thats good then, just bought another set of 4 on the bay of e. described as std defender wheels, but looked very deep, so I asked him the o/a width, and he said 7 1/2" 4no for £42.46 not to far away either. Now don't know whether to sell them on, or take 2 (2 spare wheels) and sell 2. Don't know what the numbers are yet, prob pick up on sat.

They look to me to wider even than 569203s.

As the rim cannot be pushed any further back than as they are on a 569203, do these have some kind of wider or differently constructed outer section? Or is what we see an optical illusion caused by the smaller tyres?

I have a set of these "deepest ever....canyon deep" deep dish 203s and they seem no different than the "normal' 203s I have, other than the dish and rivet positions. I would agree with optical illusion.

These turned out to be ANR1534, all with just one coat of satin black, not layers of military paint.
