Speedo swap

Postby lrmaniac » Sat Jan 02, 2016 8:03 pm

Hi

If I wanted to change, at a later time, the speedometer from mph to kmh what do I need?

Just the speedo, just the cable? Are there special speedos for 900 tyres or special cables, or a special adaptor somewhere? Or anything else?

Thanks

There are different speedos for Series Land Rovers and 1 Tons.

But the outer scale shows MPH and the inner shows KM/H. Why do you want to change?

A britsh vehicle with MPH speedo looks very nice.

Earlier series vehicles do not normally have both scales, for example SEB only has MPH as does the cherrypicker. I suspect Joao-Pedros FC is the same.

You would only need to change the head, the cable and everything else remains the same. But where to find a KPH speedo suitable for 900-16 tyres?

My speedo only shows mph.

I don't think I'll have to change it. I'm convinced that it will pass MOT :| ...

It doesn't bother me...and if I'm not forced to change it, I'll keep it for now...

but since its a LHD, I'm used to see a Kmh speedo in front of me! :D

Since it's just the speedo on the dash, Where to find them?

Well, that was something I was hoping you could tell me!, since LR with 9.00/16 tyres over here are quite rare!

Mine is an early SIIA, petrol...the speedo does not have the oil pressure/main beam/cold start lights on the speedo!

Part number is/was 520298->might have been replaced later for another number?

And those are obscene prices!

So unless I find one on ebay will be very dificult?

All SIIa from 1968 onwards should have the speedo with the three lamps and all 1-tons are from the late era. Maybe someone made an exchange in the past.

Aah okay, I didn't notice that, sorry.
Quite difficult to find one with km/h scale on.
