I did post details on your thread on the **** forum. An LD rim has a deepset of 81mm.



This is a picture of one which hasn't had the centre turned out to fit a Land-rover hub.

Getting hold of these is probably marginally more difficult than a 92-98mm offset FC2B rim as very few owners of LD's seem willing to sell.

I got a hold of mine some 20 years ago from an enormous pile of rims at a scrapyard near Wakefield. I did have another four at one point but they went when I sold my trialler.

So you did post this info, sorry I've not reread that thread in some time.

So let me have this straight, for I know not, these things don't flop straight on, to fit them they need turning? Am I correct, as I understand the triallers liked them, presumably because they couldn't get the 92-98mm offset FC2B rim back then cheaply or even then all that easily. LD vans at one point were around in the thousands, I recall the GPO used them. Far more common than any one tonner or FC. Common as dirt back in the day, only rare now.

They must give less track than the 92-98mm offset FC2B rim, so short of putting a roller-skate under the rear diff, would give a greater turning radius that our favourite rim (marginally). I had it that seeing as these LD rims were an Austin part, they are related to the Champ rim I've seen, or the self-same. Do you have a part number? I suspect they are made by Owen (as was the LR rims we speak of) so the part number will be in the same place. Sorry to pester, but with something so obscure, you're likely the one and only source for this information. Can you do more pics?

I have the part number as 503489, but I'm a little confused, that could be the Champ rim number. I've resolutley failed to definitively get to the bottom of this. Oh yes and tyre size, are these 6 1/2 Wide?

Thank you most kindly, the pics help lots and the mystery of these unravels. With that fillet in the pressing, they're not going to be hard to identify, and those are nothing to do with Champ rims.

Do you have a part number on them, Trouble is I'm now wondering if they were made by Owen, why would Owen make a separate pressing when as far as I can see there would be no need. Therefore we can deduce, perhaps wrongly these are not by Owen. Worse the part number could be anywhere, and they're not easy to read when you know where to look, but I'd start to look in the same place.

On the other thread what was being talked about...

I'm currently away from home so will see if I can find a number pressed into the nave plate or elsewhere.

As regards which LD rims we're interested in then definitely the pressed ones shown here i.e. the 1ton LD van. The ones with the flat plate centre are very heavy in comparison. I haven't a clue why the guy on the **** forum seemed so set on them. I wasn't going to start an argument about it.

My specific interest in a set of FC rims right now is to put on a trialler - does this get me banned from this forum or as the owner of genuine FC am I let off????

Ahem... my 9.00 tyre size wearing credentials are rather more suspect than yours at present. Reckon if we need to actaully have sight of a one tonner, on that measure, we're both banned.

Thought I'd check exactly what I've got sat around. These came off a trailer so no idea what they where originally fitted to!

I wonder to what extent (if any) these rims were actually sold for use on other vehicles, trailers etc - especially considering the rims were not made by Land Rover but bought in from Owen, Dunlop etc.

Kind of like how the 127" ended up with that wheelbase because it was the longest single piece propshaft Landrover could buy from Hardy-Spicer.

Good Morning Guys,

I've just got the five rims I bought the other day back from the shot blasters.

One is stamped clearly stamped 569203, the other matching one has no readily observable stamping. Both have measured deepsets of 89-90mm.

The other three are clearly stamped 543384, they have a measured deepset of 71mm.

Good Afternoon All,

One final photo for the day before I go out and cut the grass!!

This is a group shot, top left is a 543384 (71mm), top right is 596204 (74mm), bottom left is an Austin LD (80mm), bottom right is a 596203 (90mm).



The only draw back of the LD rim is that it is narrow in comparison to other three.
