Hi, the aluminium plate your looking for is called ''Checkmate'' probably where the name checkerplate came from? I have been told this particular pattern it is no longer produced although a simular pattern being based on a square is and can been seen here;

I've found bits and pieces of both checkmate and cricket weave over the years but the one supplier I used in the past (for fire engine restorations) said the mill that made it in Wales had closed some time ago. The best bet is commercial vehicle scrap yards now - old buses can be a particularly good source.
