SEB vehicles

Postby 22900013A » Sat Jun 14, 2014 2:12 pm

I know this won't be of interest to everyone but following on from the recent release of a load of SEB era archive material via http://www.sseheritage.org.uk I thought it worth doing a recap on what I have discovered about SEB Land Rovers.

The earliest photo I know of is this of a 107" pickup.

I do not know if the board made use of SWB Series 1s.

From 1948 to 1966 SEB had a dark green colour scheme with gold letting/insignia. I have only a few photos of Series II/IIA vehicles in this scheme. The paint was known as either Bedona or Beldene Green, or possibly Buckingham Green. Some of the Land Rovers were in special order paint, others supplied in Deep bronze Green and overpainted.

This 1960 Series II 109" was used around the Oxford area. The chassis number was 151001519.

Cherrypicker versions also existed.

This survivor was on chassis number 151101277

The hardtops were probably later than the 3/4 tilt versions.

By 1967 SEB were ordering 109" petrol hardtops. These were usually fitted with hydraulic winches and roof racks.

The Board also made limited use of short wheelbase vehicles, mainly as mangers or foremans vehicles, or for wayleave officers.

This cherrypicker is on chassis number 25112489D and is the earliest 109" petrol I could find painted SEB Green in the build book.

Initially these were in special order SEB Green.

Forward Controls were purchased in limited numbers, mainly as cherrypickers.

In 1969 the board began receiving 1-Ton spec IIAs.

The board continued with orders of Series IIIs.

MRX283L was based at Melksham, and is on chassis number 26600087B - it is still on the road today.

Stage 1 V8s came later.
