Re: LR 110 Rapid Transit Backhoe

Some progress... Dismantled the digger over the last few weeks. Had to fight it all the way with every pin being a pig to remove. Lots of heat and lots of hammering to get the job done. http://staffweb.worc.ac.uk/photomodule/other/DSCF0965.JPG After a long wait, the Beaver digger parts back from san...

Re: BBC Article on the end of defender.

They'll sell no doubt - not least because of the 'credibility' of it being done at Solihull by long standing staff. It'll serve as a PR bridge to the new Defender too - they will be able to argue there is no severing of LRs commitment to the Defender (and its predecessors) + how they value their own...

Re: BBC Article on the end of defender.

To be fair to Roger when he said 'we're here to make money, not cars' he went on to say about their obligation to employees to provide them with secure jobs for the future. There is also the work created by contracts with suppliers - a surprising number in the west midlands and this has grown hugely...

Re: BBC Article on the end of defender.

I don't know about hatchbacks :o but certainly premium cars (i.e. ones with bigger margins) that sell in large volumes - thats where the profits are which it must be said has lead to expansion and a huge number of new jobs at JLR in the last five years. They'll trade on their heritage no doubt and t...

Re: BBC Article on the end of defender.

All good points Dan but they've wanted to replace the Defender for many years but for a variety of reasons it has soldiered on far longer than anyone really expected - so with sales of other models booming (all with higher margins) and it fitting less and less with the idea of a what has become a 'l...

Re: BBC Article on the end of defender.

It's very sad to see the Defender come to an end but I say that with my 'enthusiast' head on. It's all about the margins from a business point of view which are much greater on 'aspirational' models sold into saturated markets such as Europe and the US. Combine that with selling only about 17,000 De...

Re: LR 110 Rapid Transit Backhoe

Yes I spoke to Rob at the last Dunsfold show - he rather rekindled my desire to find a 110 'Beaver' version in fact! Assuming he's at the next one with his, hopefully I will be with mine!
