Banding is cutting a rim in half an welding a piece of 'tube' in the middle to make it wider. What you're thinking of is possible, although given the comparative rarity of 101 rims, I'd sell them and find something else to put a set of 5 stud centres in, be it a set of Disco steelies or perhaps som...
