900 16 tyres

Postby JohanB » Thu Apr 26, 2018 11:17 am

I found a Firestone 900 16 10 ply Land Road tyre in South Africa.
I is sold as a military and agricultural tyre. Would this work on my 2B FC?

It would fit, speed ratings may not be entirely appropriate for the truck, but that doesn't stop some.

I cannot find any tire in SA that fits and gives the same ground clearance. The closest I can get is a 255/85 16 that is 840mm versus the 890mm of the 900 16. I also do not want to use spacers for a wider option. How do I find the speed rating of the tyre, the suppliers here do not have anything.

Going with wider rims and 315/75 R16 will give you a tyre the same size as a 9.00x16.
They are a fair bit wider though, with an 8 inch rim being a more ideal fitment.

Spares in South Africa is difficult to find. I dont think I would be able to get replacement rims. The closest i can get to the size of the 900 16 is 255/85/16, but will lose 20mm on clearance. We do a lot of sand driving so the clearance is important.
The supplier has no speed rating on the 900 16 Firestone tyres, but it is sold to the SANDF as road tyres, so I dont know if it will be suitable.I have 900 16 General Tyres on now that looks identicalr to the firestone with 20% tread left.
Difficult decision. The ZAR value also doesnt help.

Michelin make a 255-100-16 XZL which is sold as the equivalent to the 900-16.
I have them on the 6x6 FC now.
Replacements new here in OZ are just under $800 Au each. I will only be buying two at a time at that price to lessen the pain.
You should be able to get them there in SA

According to the SA Firestone web site your tyre 'Land Road' has a A6 speed rating which is only 30kph. And only available in 10.5 x 16.
