Barn Find 1970 GPO IIB Broadcast

Postby Scoguy84 » Sun Apr 01, 2018 10:07 pm

Found mid 2016 collected a year later mid 2017 Light Restoration work carried out so far preserving as much originality. Removed water pump had it rebuilt original pump fully and housing. Inside the block is like new so smooth inside the water jackets. Milage is genuine. Fired the engine up Aug 2017 its run since 1991. pair to that turned over by hand plenty oil etc. compression doubled after 1st run with zero smoke. Video to prove :) I was not even looking for a Land Rover went to look at another car. spotted the Land Rover went back a year later to look at the car again and asked about the LR when the owner mentioned the milage I bought it on the spot :) Latley just been replacing seals and gently recomissioning. A touch of welding to rear of chassis, new springs 100 each next town where i live. Inside the chassis is like new. Outer chassis showing a black base coat with the GPO silver. most fallen off plenty oil will keep it good.

Image

Fleet number in black and white pic is 204633 My GPO Fleet number is 204627 built 1970 registered 1972.

Image

I managed to save what was left of the gold leaf lettering by gently scraping with a blunt rounded screw driver took ages.

Image

After a cooling fan blade, the driveshaft to water pump and the bearing bracket support / mounting.

When can I find replacement top and bottom coolant pipes? Any suppliers I can contact?

I also will eventually return to separate cab. I would need a top and a rear cab parts.

If any one has a similar GPO Broadcast van I would love some measurements and detail shots of the folding step. I would like to make up reinstate the side step.

Any info is appreciated :)

I assume the cab is open into the back body? Could this have been a GPO modification?

I decided to give the chassis a similar black finish. GPO then painted over with silver paint.
