Hi.

How's the progress going on this one?

Have you pulled the rear body apart for galvanising?

Regards Taz

Hello Taz,
progress is slower that I would like, but it is happening. Have been playing with gear linkages, hand brake rods & steering bits. Will have to look at tray frame soon as i'm making a pile of stuff to get galvanised.
Still waiting on some engine parts to arrive from the UK, seams to take forever.
I will have to decide on the colour soon. Original colour is Mid Grey but Blue looks good. The parts book shows R.A.F. Blue & Marine Blue, I assume that R.A.F. Blue would be more correct for my 1963 FC.

Leon.

Its time for the rear tray to get some attention.
Most of the steel will clean up with a sand blast, but a few bits are too rusty.

Most of my effort lately has been spent on the engine. The head failed the crack test, 4 cracks in the #3 & #4 area. So a replacement head is now at the recon shop having hardened exhaust seats fitted and a surface skim. The new valves & guides have arrived from the other side of the planet.
A chap with 1965 SWB had one of his 3 screw in core plugs collapse 8 months after an engine rebuild, so I have decided to replace mine. I removed them by drilling a series of small holes and then knocking out with a small cold chisel. This left the threads in need of a tidy up. I managed to borrow a 1x16 conduit tap for the two smaller plugs. And after much research, the tap required for the larger 'water heater' hole is an 1 inch NPS American Pipe parallel thread with a 11.5 TPI (BSP-P is 11 TPI). I found one on ebay for the right price, but 11600 miles away. Another 2 week wait.
Plug now fitted, as is the crank & rear maim seal. Now I find out that the rings are the wrong one. Will have to order some tomorrow.

A progress up-date.......
I decided to go for the 9.5inch clutch as most FCs are fitted with this, and the price was better. I also had a NOS flywheel with the option with the two or three dowel holes. The replacement (uncracked) head is now on with new valves & seats, timing chain fitted, distributor rebuilt. Stripped down & cleaned the Solex carb, re-bushed the shaft.
Now in progress with the gearbox. Mainshaft & layshaft together, T-box output shafts fitted. All new bearings, bronze bushes & seals. New 1st & reverse gears. So hopefully it will all work correctly when finished.

Hello Taz,
have been setting up the gear linkage rods, a fiddly job on the 2a's.
The next job is to make up new brake pipes & fit them before the deck goes on.
But priority now is a few maintenance jobs on the Series One, getting it ready for another 800 mile trip in February.
